Bao Bun is a type of lotus leaf bun. It is popular street food in Asia. It consists of a slice of stewed meat and other condiments sandwiched between flat steamed bread known as lotus leaf bun. It goes great with meat or non-meat items like mushrooms or tofu.
Bao, also known as steamed bun or baozi (包子). Bao is a complete meal conveniently packed away in a white, warm, and soft bun. Traditionally with pork filling but it can be filled with veggies, chicken, or red bean paste.
One of my greatest memories growing up was when my mom makes us Bao. It is usually an all-day event as it is labor intensive but a fun thing for the whole family to be involved. I have always wanted to share those experiences with my children but our busy lifestyle often got in the way. During the pandemic with the extra time being at home, I decided to give it a try. After several testing and trying, I was able to come up with a product that taste like how my mom made it.
We believe “food” is a way to connect with others and share our culture so we decided to share it with everyone in the Bloomington/Normal community.
Hope you enjoy and share the love of “bao” with others.
